We refurbish a vast amount of Split Rims. The process starts with us removing at the tyres etc and getting the alloy ready for splitting. We do this by removing all the bolts which hold the alloy wheel together. Once all the bolts are out we can then split the wheel into 2 or 3 piece’s depending on what type of alloy wheel it is. The pieces are then all refurbished separately so that the whole of the alloy is renewed piece by piece.

The alloys are also fully examined and checked to see if they require any other repairs such as alloy wheel straightening or for welding.

Split Rims cost more to refurbish when compared to normal 1 piece Alloy Wheels, as there’s more work required when repairing and refurbishing them, Obviously as the Alloy Splits up into multiple pieces which all need Refurbishing separately.

Normally Split Rims have a polished outer dish, which requires Aluminium Polishing and then lacquering. If there is deep kerbing damage to that dish it may require welding-(Bentley Split Rim), that’s if the customer wants the edges of the dish to look perfect again.

A lot of the Split Rims we refurbish require Straightening on the dish as the deep dishes are easily damaged, especially when they have been driven on, with low profile tyres. This is because the low profile tyres, do not offer much protection compared to larger profile tyres.

For customers who don’t want to spend too much money on refurbishing their Split Rims, it is also possible to repair and refurbish them without splitting them. This means the Alloy will go through the same Full Alloy Wheel Refurbishment- Powder Coating, as 1 piece Alloys do. The down side to this is the Alloy Wheels will all be 1 colour, instead of having a polished dish and a coloured centre piece. A second colour can be added when the Alloy is refurbished as 1 piece, but it is easier to apply this second colour or polished edge properly, when the wheel has been split beforehand.

Scope Of Work

All Alloy Wheels Repaired and Fully Refurbished by The Wheel Medics are Acid dipped, Sandblasted, and then Powder Coated, Diamond Cut or Polished if necessary. New valves are supplied free of charge and a free tyre change is also available if necessary. All Alloy Wheels are also FULLY examined to check if Alloy Wheel Straightening or Alloy Wheel Welding is required in any way.
