VW Sharan- Alloy Rebuild and Full Refurbishment
This VW Sharan had been in a serious accident and as a result had damaged all of the alloy wheels pretty severely. 3 of the wheels were buckled and required alloy wheel straightening, and the worst one in the images below had been smashed up so badly, that there was a chunk of the face broken off the alloy completely. When there is more extensive damage to a wheel and a piece of the alloy wheel has broken away from the rim, we have to give the wheel a Full Alloy Wheel Refurbishment. This is because acid dipping and sandblasting the wheel, before welding completely cleans the damaged area of any contaminants (grease, dirt and paint), thus helping the weld to have maximum hold. The welding process would not work if the area being welded has not been completely cleaned and decontaminated first. The Missing section of the wheel is then completely welded back, in layers to create a stronger hold. The welded area is then reformed by means of grinding and sanding down, to match the rest of the wheel (BMW CSL). Rebuilds are very necessary on Diamond Cut wheels- M3 as the surface area on the face of the wheel has to be cut on a CNC Lathe – so if there is any alloy material missing it will have a visable void on the cut face of the wheel.
Rebuilds can take slightly longer to do as they require more repair work meaning more repair time.
