We refurbish a vast amount of split rims. The process starts with us removing at the tyres etc and getting the alloy ready for splitting. We do this by removing all the bolts which hold the alloy wheel together. Once all the bolts are out we can then split the wheel into 2 or 3 piece’s depending on what type of alloy wheel it is. The pieces are then all refurbished separately so that the whole alloy is renewed piece by piece.
The alloys are also fully examined and checked to see if they require any other repairs such as alloy wheel straightening or for welding.
Split rims cost more to refurbish when compared to normal 1 piece wheels, as there’s more work required when repairing and refurbishing them. Obviously as the alloy splits up into multiple pieces which all need refurbishing separately.
Normally split rims have a polished outer dish which requires Aluminium Polishing and then lacquering. If there is deep kerbing damage to that dish it may require welding (Bentley Split Rim).
A lot of the Split Rims we refurbish require Straightening on the dish as the deep dishes are easily damaged, especially when they have been driven on with low profile tyres. This is because the low profile tyres, do not offer much protection compared to larger profile tyres.
